Green Mela — Building an Ecosystem for Conscious Living
As an advocate of sustainability, I have organised several exhibitions and community initiatives to promote environmental awareness, sustainable practices and conscious living. These efforts gradually evolved into Green Mela — a platform envisioned not merely as an event, but as an ecosystem connecting people, products, livelihoods and ideas around a more sustainable way of life.
Over a period of approximately 18 months, four editions of Green Mela were organised across Hyderabad, taking the concept to diverse spaces — from public and government venues to upmarket cafés, schools and other community-oriented locations.
These editions helped us build a valuable network and map of more than 150 vendors and enterprises, including women entrepreneurs, small and marginal farmers, artisans, independent producers and small businesses working with sustainable and eco-friendly products. Alongside this, we developed an understanding of the audiences who actively seek and appreciate conscious alternatives.
The larger vision is to establish a permanent address for Green Mela — a living ecosystem where artisans and small enterprises can find visibility and markets; farmers and independent producers can connect directly with consumers; and people who value minimalism, sustainability and responsible consumption can discover products, ideas and communities aligned with their way of life.
At its heart, Green Mela is about co-existence — between people and nature, commerce and responsibility, tradition and innovation, and consumption and consciousness.
The goal is not simply to organise another marketplace.
It is to create a space where sustainable living becomes a community, a livelihood and a way of life.
